The Church of our lady Queen of Peace, located in Bydgoszcz Bernardine street, the locals call the garrison, as a parish, to which he belongs, was founded by the military. Until 1971 the patron of the Church of St. George was considered, but the priest Stefan wyszyński was renamed the Church entrusted to him.

The history of the Garrison Church in Bydgoszcz originated in the distant 1480, when in this Polish town came Bernardine. Permission to settle in Bydgoszcz they got from the king himself. At the direction of the wrocław Bishop Zbigniew Olesnytsky was part of the Bernardine monastery.

When the monastery was built the Church, consecrated by the name of St. Jerome and St. Francis, which was completely destroyed in a fire caused by a lightning strike in 1545. Then suffered many of the monastery buildings, survived only a library with rare books collection and the infirmary.

September 23, 1552 Polish king Sigismund Augustus gave the order on restoration of the destroyed Bernardine Church. His only condition was the following: the height of the spire of the Church was not supposed to exceed the height of the towers of the castle, standing in the neighborhood. The Church was erected in 1552-1557, and had already dedicated it to St. George. It was built in the Gothic style, but the façade was used and Renaissance elements.

The temple was in a dilapidated condition after the Swedish wars of the seventeenth century, so it was reconstructed, slightly altered his appearance. So, Church was a square tower, which survived until our days. In 1682-1685 year before the temple in honor of the victory in the battle of Vienna Jan Panino founded a small chapel of Loreto hut of the Mother of God.

In the XVIII century the Church had 7 altars and rich collection of ecclesiastical items. By that time, the Church's roof was covered with tiles, and tiled with ceramic tiles. Benches for the faithful were created from wood and decorated with carvings.

The Church became a garrison in 1838 during the Prussian rule. Then it was visited mainly the soldiers of the nearby garrison. It has retained its status as a military Church until today.
