One of the main cultural centers of the city is the Chernihiv regional Philharmonic hall, located on Prospekt Mira, 15, not far from red square. The Philharmonic was founded in 1944 and housed in the former Eletsky monastery. Initially in its composition consisted of twelve people, in addition, there were freelance artists and workers.

Since 1964, the regional Philharmonic society has found its permanent location in the former home of the diocesan Nicholas society, built in 1912 and has a great concert hall for 612 seats. Today the building is a monument of architecture. In General, the complex of buildings includes a chapel, erected in 1870 in honor of Alexander Nevsky.

Earlier in 1919-1920 in this building housed the provincial political and military-political course for commanders of the red Army. From 1932 to 1941 – regional musical drama theatre, which was destroyed in the summer of 1941 during the bombing. After the war the building was restored, the former chapel was built on the third floor. The house is an example of a non-Slavic architectural style, popular at the junction of the V. 19-20

In 2000, Chernihiv oblast Philharmonic reorganized in Regional Philharmonic centre for festivals and concerts. The main purpose of its creation was the revival of Ukrainian national culture, popularization of Ukrainian and foreign art, the promotion of the best works of folk, brass, symphonic, instrumental, choral, vocal and other musical genres.

Currently regional Philharmonic society can be proud of their teams: academic Symphony orchestra "Philharmonia", academic song and dance ensemble "Siverskiy jewelry", academic chamber choir Bortnyansky, brass band, Chernihiv national chorus and concert performers.
