The Church of Constantine and Helen Orthodox Church, which is one of the main religious and architectural attractions of the city of Chisinau. The Church was built in 1777 on the hill, on the banks of the river Byk. Funds for the Church building were donated by a wealthy burgher of Constantine Riscani.
Originally the Church was in a small village of Rascani and was called the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord. In the first half of the XVIII century the village was referred to Orhei County. In 1834 Egor of Riscani decided to rename the Church in honor of his father Constantine. Since that time, the Church began to wear the name - the Church of Saints Constantine and Helena. In XIX century the temple was considered the graveyard of the village Church Visterniceni.
The Church building was made in an old Moldavian architectural style. On the left side of the Central part you can see a small semi-circular extension. The top of the Church is decorated with a square tower, above which rises the cross.
Near the Church of Constantine and Helen was once a fairly large cemetery. Today I have almost nothing. Gravestones of famous personalities were moved from the cemetery and reburied near the building of the temple. Here is preserved a large number of tombstones Dating from the XIX century, among which are valuable samples of Moldovan stone carving. In the cemetery were buried family Krupinski, Rally, Donich and Katsiki, with whom he was intimately acquainted A. S. Pushkin himself.
In Soviet times the Church was in effect. After gaining Moldovan independence in the temple erected a wooden iconostasis, whose author was the renowned artist and filmmaker R. Vieru. After a few years the Church of Constantine and Helena was rebuilt, the result of which was built a new porch and changed the shape of the roof.
Today, the Church of Constantine and Helena is an active Church, which is annually visited by a huge number of parishioners and tourists.
