The Church of St. Bartholomew (Church of San Bartolomeu) is in the same area, which is included in the district of Coimbra. The Church stands on the Rua DOS Esteros, in the city center, close to Commerce square. The temple is considered one of the oldest buildings in the city of Coimbra.

The temple was built in the X century and dedicated to St. Bartholomew, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, and is mentioned in the New Testament. For all time of existence of the temple were conducted twice reconstruction work: in the XII century and in the eighteenth century. The facade of the Church is crowned by a portal and two towers with bells on the corners of the roof. The facade is decorated with barred oval window, which is a characteristic feature of the Baroque style.

Inside the Church nave, the walls are decorated with paintings by famous Italian artist Pascal Parente. An eye-catcher chapel and altarpiece large size of the XVIII century in Baroque style made of wood and marble and decorated with gold leaf. On the image hangs a large painting depicting the suffering of St. Bartholomew, also written by the Italian artist Pascal Parente. The altar of the XVI century in the style of mannerism and paintings depicting scenes of death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Church was originally built in the Romanesque style. The building we see today is the result of restoration works of the XVIII century, when there have been many Baroque elements.
