Buddhist temple "Golden abode of Buddha Shakyamuni" in the city of Elista is the largest Buddhist temple not only on the territory of the Republic of Kalmykia, but in the whole Europe. It is located in the city center, on the street Yuri Klykova.

The temple was built on the site previously located here factory ZHBK with the blessing of the Dalai Lama. In just 9 months, the builders and architects were able not only to build the temple itself, but also to create its interior. The solemn consecration of a Buddhist khurul was held on 27 December 2005 At the opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Orthodox and Buddhist clergy, Kalmyk leadership and foreign guests.

The total height of the building of the temple is 56 m. it is the biggest in the country and Europe, a twelve meter high Buddha statue. Khurul is a magnificent building in which there are prayer services, holiday services and rituals. Around the perimeter of the building of a Buddhist temple surrounded by a fence with alternating snow white stupas. All around the monastery there are 108 stupas. The monastery was designed in the form of a mandala. Within the walls of the khurul has four entrances – from all sides. The main building of the temple is surrounded by 17 pagoda temple with statues of Buddhist teachers of Nalanda monastery.

Central Church of the city of Elista consists of seven levels. Each level has its specific function. At the first level are a library, a Museum with photographs and pieces of Buddhism and conference hall with 460 seats. The second level has a prayer hall with a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, inside of which lies a sacred objects. The third level is the administration and the individual reception room. Here is the reception of the faithful monks, astrologer and doctor of Tibetan medicine. On the fourth level there is a small conference hall and the residence of the head of Kalmyk Buddhists telo Tulku Rinpoche, and the fifth - the residence of His Holiness Dalai-Lama XIV Tenzin, Gyatso. The sixth level is represented by household premises. With regard to the seventh level, there is a meditation room, it can only go to clerics.
