The famous mount Ararat is located approximately 300 km East of Erzurum, near the small town of Dogubayazit near the Iranian border. Its top (5165 m) is covered by snow and on a clear day is visible from afar. According to the biblical legend, the Ararat after the Great flood landed the ark of Noah.
