The mausoleum of Lucius Strap is one of the most well preserved sites of Gaeta, referring to the era of Ancient Rome. Lucius Planck was born in 90 BC, presumably in Tivoli and died at the age of 90 in Gaeta in the year of the Nativity. During his life he held a variety of positions: he was Consul in 42-m BC when the triumvirate Aemilia, censor, urban prefect and founder of two Roman colonies. He also was a General Julius Caesar in his military campaigns to conquer Gaul, and served him during the Civil wars. After Caesar won the Civil war, he sent Lucius Strap to Spain and appointed him city prefect. And after the death of Caesar, Lucius swore allegiance to Cicero, who entrusted to him the Foundation of the colony in Gaul. Later, he would become the founder of another colony of Augusta Raurica (current Swiss Basel).
The last years of his life visionary policy Lucius Strap held in Gaeta, a small cute Villa, from which up to our days there were only ruins and a huge mausoleum on the top of Monte Orlando. This is a unique architectural structure was built in the 22nd year BC in the form of a cylinder. The mausoleum, built of limestone tufa, stands at a height of 168 meters. He has 13, 2 meters in height and about 29, 5 meters in diameter. The decoration of the mausoleum is a frieze with military symbols.
