The town of Olhão is located 8 km from Faro and is actually the largest fishing port in the Algarve. As the city of Olhão became known only in the nineteenth century. Until that time, it was a small fishing village with a small number of people, and the first mention of it dates back to the year 1328. Housing for local residents served as huts, built of wood, straw and reed. Later, in the XVII century, a fortress was built to protect the inhabitants from attacks by pirates.

The Church was later consecrated in 1715. The entrance to the main chapel of the temple is made in the form of a triumphal arch, on the inside of the chapel is a carved gilded altar of the seventeenth century. The ceiling is decorated with frescoes of the XVII century, with images of the virgin Mary of the rosary. Also there is a side chapel, which is located inside carved altars.
