Holy mountain in Sofia is a monastic complex on the slopes of Vitosha mountain and its neighbouring mountains, which includes fourteen monasteries. It is worth noting that the emergence of this complex occurred spontaneously, and the final formation lasted more than one century, since the thirteenth century.
Initially, the functions of the chief of the monastery were performed by Bystritsky, safely reached the Church of St. George in neighbouring Sofia the village of Bistritsa.
The largest monastic cloister has been preserved in its original form: Dragalevtsi St. Notre Dame, cherepashki of the assumption St. Notre Dame, Kokalyane St. Michael the Archangel, Etropolski St. Trinity and Senoussi Seven thrones. They are all located in the mountains in the outskirts of Sofia and the closest to them monasteries in the district of Pernik (Kaliski St. Petka, Radobolskiy to Trinity, Pasterski St. Nicholas, Zemen monastery of St. John the theologian, etc.).
Interesting is the fact that Sofia monasteries of the Holy mountain focused around not only people's spirit and culture, but also towns that are now part of modern Sofia.
Today Sofia monasteries of the Holy mountain are centres of pilgrimage tourism. These places are becoming increasingly popular, the Sofia municipality has paved 27 Hiking trails for hikers.
