Imperial castle in Poznan, built in 1910 for the German Emperor Wilhelm II. The construction of the castle began in 1905, the work was directed by the German architect Franz Heinrich Swejen. Five years later, on August 21, 1910, during the Emperor's visit to Poznan, the architect handed the Emperor the keys to the new residence.

The construction of the Palace cost 5 million marks, it was designed in neo-Romanesque style and was designed to demonstrate the control of the German Empire over the great Poland. The castle, built of concrete, brick and Sandstone, was completed in the form of a polygon. In the West wing were the private chambers of the Emperor and Empress connected with each other by a corridor with four statues. The chapel, located in the tower of the West wing, was built in the Byzantine style by the architect August Oetken. One of the most impressive rooms in the castle Throne room is in the Byzantine style. The room is lit with huge Windows on three sides. Between the arches of the niches there were eight statues depicting emperors of the Holy Roman Empire.

After the First world war, the castle became the property of Poland. In the postwar years he served as the residence of the Polish President, part of the premises used by the University of Poznan.

After the capture of Poznan by the Germans in 1939, came to the castle, the architect of Hitler to make changes in the future residence of the leader of the Third Reich. Repair work lasted until 1944, during which many were destroyed parts of the interior decoration. In 1945, during the battle of poznań in the castle was opened as a military hospital for German prisoners of war.
