The small, ancient town of Glastonbury is in Somerset in the South West of England. Ancient history and the many legends associated with this place, attract thousands of tourists from all over the world. One of the most popular and favorite tourist attractions is the Museum of rural life of Somerset.
The main building of the Museum – the tithe barn of the fourteenth century, formerly owned by influential and rich Glastonbury Abbey. Here threshed and proveably grain, but here it's stored. Barn built of local limestone. In 2011 Glastonbury masters made new doors for the barn, using ancient techniques and materials. Height 4 doors, 3 m.
In the barn and in the yard next to it collected samples of agricultural machinery in the second half of XIX – early XX century. In the Museum you can see how used to make butter, cheese, and Apple cider, as harvested peat and more. Most of these exhibits are current, and visitors to the Museum can see it with my own eyes. Well here comes a family, because the Museum is designed for visitors with children. They arranged for an interactive demonstration in which children are happy to participate.
At the Museum there is a bee farm and Apple orchard, and are bred rare breeds of sheep and poultry.
