Nikiti is a pretty resort town on the Sithonia Peninsula (Chalkidiki, Greece). It is located about 35 km South-East of Polygyros town and 100 km from Thessaloniki among olive groves and pine forests. Picturesque natural landscapes and endless sandy beaches of Nikiti (some of them have been awarded "blue flag" every year attract many tourists from all over the world.

Archaeological excavations have shown that Nikiti and its surroundings have been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the classical era in 5-6 km South of Nikiti (between Cape Castries and the beach of Agia Ioannis) was located antique Calypsos, mentioned in the writings of Herodotus. It is known that settlements existed here in Roman and Byzantine times.

The first written mention of the settlement under the name "Nikiti" found in documents from the archive of the monastery of Xenophon from the Holy mount Athos (in possession and was then the land) and date from the early 14th century. During the rule in these parts of the Ottoman Empire Nikiti has become one of the largest settlements in the Peninsula of Halkidiki.

Today Nikiti is a popular resort with a well-developed infrastructure. The settlement is divided into two parts – the historical center (located about 2 km from the shoreline in the picturesque hills and coastal resort area. Surrounded by greenery and flowers "old town" is a picturesque Greek village with traditional stone houses with wooden balconies. Many buildings were built in the 19th century and is perfectly preserved to our times, including the Church of St. Nikita (1867) and old school.

All tourist services you will find in the coastal region. Along the picturesque waterfront are many cozy restaurants, taverns and cafes where you can relax and enjoy the traditional local cuisine. In Nikiti has a small port. Here you can rent a boat and take a fascinating voyage along the coast of Sithonia.

Among the attractions of Nikiti is to provide early Christian Basilica of St. Sophronios with unique floor mosaics (5th century), the small chapel of St. George (18th century), built on the ruins of an earlier temple, and situated in the village cemetery partially destroyed the Church of St. Mary with unique wall paintings of the 16th century.

Definitely worth a visit and a traditional local fair, which takes place in Nikiti every Friday. Separate attention deserves the excellent locally produced honey, which is famous for Nikiti is one of the largest producers of honey in Greece.
