The actual year of Foundation of the city Museum of Herceg-Novi in 1949. Since 1953, the Museum is in a building that has been bequeathed an honorary citizen of the city, prominent public figure of Montenegro Mirko Komnenovic. The appearance of the building characterizes the late Baroque style of the eighteenth century.
In the Museum's collection contains four different exhibitions: historical, ethnographic, archaeological, and icon collection. The exhibits include rare archaeological finds, such as amphorae, coins, documents, weapons, bas-reliefs, musical instruments and agricultural implements. In addition, exhibits include national decorations and costumes.
The Museum complex also includes the Park. In essence, this Botanical garden is small in size, the total area not exceeding 1000 sq. m. In the Park you can see a collection of carefully selected subtropical Mediterranean plants. From wild plants the Park is home to different species of palm trees, cacti, agaves, aloe, magnolias, camellias, shrubs and conifers. In addition, the Park has a plantation of medicinal and aromatic herbs, typical of the Mediterranean climate.
Here is the "Mimosa Festival" is an annual holiday, which is famous Herceg-Novi, not only throughout Montenegro, Europe. This plant is widely distributed in the Park at the Museum. The timing of the holiday – one month: from late February to early March.
