The idea of installing the carrier rocket "Vostok" of the Museum of the history of space exploration appeared at the time of laying the first stone in the Foundation of the Museum of Y. A. Gagarin. The Museum was opened on 3 October 1967. But the decision to install missile system was adopted by the government only in 1972 Autumn 1972 disassembled into the component parts of the missile was delivered to Kaluga by rail.

Before being in Kaluga, the rocket was demonstrated at the air show, Le Bourget, in Turin, Rome, Budapest, Bucharest, Prague.

In 2010, the missile was again "laid" for restoration work. Were again checked all the units, the complex was re-painted with special paint. In vertical position the rocket returned for the 50th anniversary of Gagarin's flight into space. Currently the rocket again awaiting repair in a horizontal position.
