An ancient castle with strong walls and slender towers and small Windows typical for defensive fortresses, was built nearby, with Karlovy vary town of Loket in 1234. Excursions are organized from Karlovy vary, and the castle itself is often ranked among the local attractions.

The name of the castle comes from the Czech word "elbow". The ohře river, on which the castle is built, makes this place a sharp turn, resembling a portion of a human hand.
