The Monastery Of Nový Dvůr Photo: Monastery Of Nový Dvůr

One of the most famous Czech monasteries located in the small town of Toužim, which is part of the Karlovy vary region. The monastery is called nový dvůr, belongs to the Trappist that is separated from the Cistercian order. They adhere to strict statutes, offer praise to God most of the day, almost always silent.

Nový dvůr is a monastery of the Mother of God, the building which was recently renovated in 2002. Interestingly, the monastery itself, that is, the community of monks, has existed since the seventeenth century.

The building, which now houses the monastery was abandoned for a long time. It is far away from the city, it was the farm. An abandoned building in the Baroque style gradually destroyed under the influence of the environment. This continued for a long time, until the monks of the Trappist, who came from France, paid it no attention. Work on the restoration of the building commenced in 2000. As a result the three wings of the building were demolished and rebuilt.

In the design of the monastery was observed the main principle of the order of Cistercians: austerity and brevity in all things. The façade is devoid of any decoration, the patio is not decorated with columns. All modest and simple, nothing to distract you from prayer.

Simple tourist can get to the monastery only on weekends, when its doors open for the laity.

At the monastery mustard produce delicious. It manufactured by the monks themselves according to the ancient recipe. This natural product contains no preservatives, is a perfect gift to relatives and friends.
