Reserve Kaliakra is the eponymous Cape 12 km on Southeast from the town of Kavarna. It ranks among the biggest attractions on the black sea in mind the rich history, well-preserved, untouched nature and amazing beauty of the panorama.

The reserve is surrounded by steep cliffs, which reach heights of 70 meters. At the foot of the wave-washed arches and caves accessible only by sea. Once these tunnels and caves were used for unloading and loading ships and were directly connected to the fortress.

The total area of the reserve is almost 70 hectares. this includes wild steppe, and coastal cliffs. Flora has over 400 species, and the fauna is represented by more than three hundred species of birds, about a hundred of them – specially protected. There are a hundred species plays a key role in the biological diversity of Europe. In addition, around the Cape into the sea often swim dolphins.

The first information that inhabited these lands, appeared in the 4th century BC, when the area was inhabited by the Thracian tribe of teresov – hence the ancient name of this Cape – Teresis.

Later the fortress wall, begun by the Thracians, restored and created another defensive line. As a result, the community was divided into two parts – external and inner city. The first wall could protect the fortress from the side of the earth, but it has remained only ruins (440 meters long and two meters in height). In place of the outer city archaeologists found the remains of various buildings, for example, a bath, a tomb with a vault and several churches of the middle Ages.

The name Kaliakra (literally "beautiful Cape") is first mentioned only in the 13-14 centuries. In the 14th century Kaliakra is not only the capital of the Eastern part of Bulgaria, but also a major international port.

The fortress is declared an architectural monument of culture of Bulgaria, and the Cape of Kaliakra is a nature reserve.
