Sabarimala is one of the most popular Hindu pilgrimage centers in not only India but all over the world. It is located in the Western Ghats, in the state of Kerala. Every year it is a Holy place visited by about 45-50 million people.

Sabarimala is considered a great place where the Hindu God Ayappa (APPA) meditated once in battle, defeated a powerful demon in the guise of a woman to Mahisha. The temple Yappy located on one of the 18 vertices of the area, at a height of 468 meters above sea level, surrounded by mountains and forests. Other peaks were also built temples, some are still valid.

The temple Yappy can only be visited by men. Women of childbearing age, from 10 to 50 years, there are not allowed. This is because Ayappa is considered to be "immaculate", accepted celibacy, God the monk. Anyone wishing to attend the temple must first implement vratham – a kind of 41-day fast, the beginning of which mark pilgrims, wearing Mala (a garland of wooden beads for rosaries. Also during this period it is anticipated refusal of food of animal origin (except milk products), tobacco, alcohol. In the temple Yappy mountain path leads, the length of which is about 52 km away, and the people believe that he Ayappa was raised on it. Therefore, to make an ascent it is considered very honorable.

Today, nobody knows exactly when Sabarimala became a place of pilgrimage. But after the construction of the temple, this place was almost forgotten. His newly "discovered" one of three local rulers a century later. In 1950 the temple was destroyed and burnt down by some anti-social groups. But in 1971 it was fully restored.
