The Palace Padmanabhapuram Photo: The Palace Padmanabhapuram

The Palace Padmanabhapuram is located in the eponymous fortified Fort, and is a whole complex of different buildings. Granite fortress, the length of which in total is about 4 kilometers, is located in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, on the border with Kerala, and lies at the foot of the Veli hills, which are part of the Western Ghats. Also nearby is the river valley.

The Palace was built in 1601 by order of Irave Varma of Kulasekhara Perumal, the ruler of the princely state of Travancore, and until 1790 served as a residence for him and his receivers. Also in 1750 Padmanabhapuram was rebuilt into its present form.

The Palace complex consists of several buildings, namely: meeting room – Montreal; parent hall – the Thai Kottaram – is so called because it is the first building of the complex, it is believed that he was created in 1550; arts hall – of Matakala; These Kottaram – South Palace; and a Central four-storey building of Upperco of Malliga.

The most beautiful part of the Palace is Montreal. Inside the hall is always cool and fresh thanks to its Windows decorated with colored mica, which also gives it a very mysterious look. Also Montrealu decorated with wrought-iron grilles. Special attention when you visit this space should be given to finishing the floor – it used different materials, even burnt coconut shells and eggs.

Another attraction of Padmanabhapuram is a tower with three hundred year old clock that still tells the correct time. Previously you could walk a secret the move that led to the Palace Carotte Kottaram, located a few kilometers from the Padmanabhapuram, and with which the family of the ruler at any time could secretly escape. But today it is closed.

In General, the Palace is a masterpiece of architectural art, it also has a large collection of interesting things, such as weapons that were actually used in combat, vases and jugs, donated by the rulers of Travancore Chinese merchants.
