Garrison Church, in the blessed name of the Holy virgin Mary – the Queen of Polish, was previously Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas. It is located near the centre of Kielce in the area between the streets Karciauskas and Hazinski. The temple was built in 1902-1904 at the initiative of the city authorities as a reaction to the construction in 1901 the Roman Catholic Church of the Holy cross. To Orthodox Kielce do not feel deprived, they also had to build a Church. As an example, for the erection of a new Church were made by St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg. Orthodox Church of the blessed virgin Mary – the Queen of Polish was the second sacred site in the area of Kielce, therefore it was made a garrison. This temple was intended primarily for the soldiers of the sixth infantry regiment, which was located in the barracks nearby in the 70-ies of the XIX century.
The architect Stanislav shpakovskiy decided to build a Church in the Byzantine style. By its shape it resembles a Greek cross, the nave is crowned with a large dome. The entrance to the Church is carried out through the lobby, which is located in the bell tower adjacent to the temple from the West side. The building of the Church at the same time accommodates up to 900 people.
The Church has 80 Windows, terracotta floors. Pearls of the high iconostasis are considered copies of the icons stored in the Vladimir Cathedral in Kiev. In one of the niches there is a mural depicting the scene of Calvary. Its author is considered to be one of the soldiers who attended this Church. By the way, he also painted the dome and the space above the main altar of St. Nicholas. In a side altar is the icon of the Mother of God "Sign", written in Novgorod.
In 1925 the Church was handed over to the garrison of the Polish army. From this moment there began to be a Catholic service.
