Church of St. Wojciech in the territory of modern Kielce appeared before the founding of the city. We can say that it is with the construction of this Church began in the city. With the advent of this Church, there is one interesting legend. Tell that earlier on the spot where now stands Kielce, is a forest rich in game. Here liked to hunt rich gentlemen. Once the son of king Mieszko, Boleslaw the Brave lost and lay down to rest on the picturesque glade. He had a terrible dream, in which enemies were trying to poison him. Salvation came from the side of St Wojciech, armed with a stick, which appeared next to Mieszko, and held on the ground that invisible line that separated the sleeping from enemies. Line marked with a stick, suddenly became sonorous stream. When the Prince woke up, he found next to him unknown as appeared here streamlet. Without the intervention of higher powers there were, decided Mieszko, and founded there a Church in honour of their Saviour and Kielce.
Church of St. Wojciech was built in the X century. Wooden Church, around which began to bury people up to the eighteenth century stood in one piece. No fires, no war had no impact on its appearance. Only in 1763 Canon Jan Rogall initiated the construction of a new Church of stone. The Church was designed in the Baroque manner. In 1885, under the direction of architect Francis Xavier Kowalski temple was rebuilt and gave it the appearance that we see now.
In the interior of the Church since 1889, survived three images, written by Jan Styli. This mural of the main altar of the "Multiplication of bread" and two paintings in the side altar of Saint Rosalia" and "St. Francis".
