The Church of St. John the divine is located in the village of Ivanovo, in the Kingisepp district. This village Nicholas I granted to A. I. Unit (great-grandfather of the famous poet). In the early 20th century it was owned by Natalia Girs, granddaughter of A. I. Unit.

In 1901, the landlady of the village began to build a stone Church on the road that leads from the village of Porechye, in the manor, near the river division of Gravity into two branches. On August 14, 1901, was approved the project of the future Church. The temple was conceived five-domed, with bunk tent-shaped belfry and refectory. It combined the Moscow style of the 17th century and the Byzantine-Romanesque architecture. Moscow style was introduced by the composition, hipped bell tower, keeled architraves over the Windows, balustrade, form adjacent columns. From the Byzantine-Romanesque architecture is borrowed total spatial resolution, the division of the façade and arcade Windows. The Church of St. John the Evangelist is a good eclectic styling, which has a rich tradition of temple architecture of Russia.

The Theological development of the project of the temple was done by V. A. Kosyakov. During this period he was the architect of the Synod, in St. Petersburg in his project was built two large churches: the Kiev-Pechersk compound on Vasilevsky island and the Church of the Epiphany on Gutuevsky island. In addition, at the same time in Kronstadt was built the majestic Sea Cathedral, in the capital – the Church of St. Nicholas, in Astrakhan, Vladimir Cathedral and the temple of the Holy Martyr Tsarina Alexandra at Putilov. The calculation of the arch was completed by the engineer-architect p. P. Trifonov.

Theological Church was built on donations from farmer M. E. Emelyanova and local farmers. Nathalie Wells was the head of the construction Commission and financed partly rather expensive construction. The owner of the estate did not live in poverty, and, in addition to extensive land holdings in Ivanovo had a paper factory, which was founded in 1895 by her jointly with the local landowners. The factory employed 200 workers in 1904, was placed in receivership, but the income N. And. Girs brought, like a small sawmill, located in the village.

The Church with one altar was erected four years and was completed even before 1905. It was built of red brick with concrete. Were made: large dome, balusters, architraves, columns.

The Church was consecrated on August 9, 1905 on the day of St. Panteleimon the Healer. Presumably the name of the Church was connected with the name of the Apostle John, in traditional kind of Blocks. After the rite of consecration of the Church, as a manor, was assigned to a parish Church in Hawk. As the number of inhabitants in the village of Ivanovskoye increased significantly, in 1911, the Synod opened a separate parish.

In the period from 1905 to 1911 the Church was services by clergy of Jastrebarsko of the temple. Five years since the establishment of an independent parish, the Church was headed by Paul Dmitrov. In 1898 he was ordained a priest and he served in the St. Petersburg diocese. In the village of Ivanovskoye father Paul served for three years and, when the First World war, was sent to the army priest. After the revolution, father Paul came to Estonia and served in Narva, October 3, 1937, he was ordained as Bishop of Narva. In 1945 he was appointed Archbishop of Tallinn and Estonia.

Since 1916 the Abbot of the temple was Nikolay Aleksandrovich Chernov, the future Martyr. Last rector of Ivanovo temple monk Andronikos, who was arrested in January 1931, then shot them in the link in Kargopol.

The Church was closed in 1936. Before the war it housed the post aerial surveillance of the Soviet army. After the occupation of the settlement month, there were a front, and during the fighting, the bell tower was destroyed. After the war, the Church continued to make out. For the time that has elapsed after the Church was closed, even the old-timers couldn't remember who dedicated the temple. Remember that the closed temple was used as a repair shop and warehouse.

In 2001 the Church was transferred to the Orthodox community. It has been working since 2004. Now the temple is restored.
