The famous historical Museum of the city of Kingisepp (Leningrad region) is located in one of the picturesque banks of the Luga river in the Central part of the medieval settlement, or Yamburg fortress, on the Avenue of Karl Marx. The old Museum building was built on the very bottom layer of the fortress wall and belongs to 1910. With regard to Museum collections, they are averaging more than twenty thousand instances, in addition now comes all the new items.
The Museum was opened in the fall of November 5, 1960. The main initiator of the Museum made Public, the Council, the chief representative of which was D. I. Smolsky – this person was the first Director of a cultural institution.
In 1978, in one of the buildings of the Catherine Cathedral, which was built under the order of Empress Catherine II by the famous architect Rinaldi.was first introduced to the stationary exposition under the name "Old Yamburg". The exhibition represents a unique archaeological finds found in the area of Amborski fortress, as well as an unusual collection found at the site of Kurgan graves and presents household items, jewelry, weapons, amulets, or talismans. Special features are the Swedish and Russian coins, Dating from 16-20 centuries. As you know, on the territory of the previously existing fortress was inhabited by the following peoples: the Izhora and VOD, Finns, Russians, Germans, Estonians – all these peoples left behind a cultural legacy of home wares, folk embroidery, weaving, clothing and tools. In addition, this section can be seen the layout of Yamburg fortress and learn about the most important events of the history of the region. One of the most remarkable exhibits are the Holy face of an unknown woman, carved from the stone and military mail, dated around the year 1703.
The second Museum exhibition called "Stopped moment". Here is a reconstruction of the Studio in which you can get acquainted with the historical development of photography, to see the work of the most sought-after photographers of the 19th and 20th centuries and a close look at the collector's edition cameras, as well as the old, pre-revolutionary photographs. Great respect among the visitors is a photographic apparatus, Dating from the early 20th century.
The exhibition "We live on one earth" is a private collection of ethnographical objects, devoted to life, life, culture and practice of Finno-Ugric peoples. As you know, these people have very long been settled in the local area. The exhibition presents more than three hundred valuable documents and items. In the heart of the exhibition are Izhora mail sled that produce a great impression on many visitors. Third exposition is called "Yamburg citizens" and tells the story of the life of the whole city during the 19th and 20th centuries. The most interesting collectible exhibition of Tula samovar, the most popular of which was the samovar called "Selfish". In the list of interesting objects: fashion magazines, lamp electric Nachalova "Miracle", the bell to call the servants, a collection of clocks, candlesticks, irons, and harmonium.
The last hall "Russia in the great Patriotic war" is over four hundred of these testimonies of the war, including photos, flyers partisan, personal belongings, and military letters, and various awards. The most memorable exhibits were things Baltic pilot p. P Titova, discovered by a search party.
