The opening of the Kirishi history Museum was on the 25th of December 1972, which coincided with the celebration of 50 anniversary of the USSR formation. The very first Museum exhibition was presented to visitors under the guidance of architect Grinko Victor and graphic artist Boris Rakitsky, who were employees of scientific-research institutions for industrial art named after V. Mukhina in St. Petersburg.

The year of the 40th anniversary of the great Victory that we had in 1985, all the exhibits of the historical Museum were moved to the building located at the address: Prospekt Pobedy, 5. Already in the new place was opened the exhibition, the head of which became the best-selling Alex – employee organization of pictorial decoration of art, and a member of artists of the USSR.

A great contribution was made by members of Association of city Kirishi artists. For the entire period of the exhibition hall were organized as well as collective and personal exhibitions dedicated to the works of the Kirishi artists, and were exposed to the creations of the students of urban art Studio, art School and kindergarten.

By 1992, an exhibition hall and the building of the historical Museum were moved to the room located on Lenin street, 42 – in this place was the collection and exhibition of works of artists from Leningrad, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Museum.

Some expositions of the Museum are of particular interest. For example, the archaeological collection includes the following items: spear heads and arrows made of silicon, ancient stone axes, sinkers and many other archaeological objects. The exhibition tells about ancient times, as well as on developments in Valho, because in this area the trade route "from the Varangians to the Greeks", which became the connecting link the southern and Northern lands.

In the historical Museum has several displays, which tells about the famous Decembrists Bestuzheva. It is known that in the past a small estate of this family was at one of the banks of the Volkhov river, namely in the quiet village office, located on the opposite side of the modern city of Kirishi.

Before the great Patriotic war in the village of Kirishi operated woodworking company – photos of local production represented in the Museum. Another interesting instance, presented in the Museum was the beautiful panoramic painting called "Kirishi, 1941" author I. F. Sokolina.

Popular among visitors is cookware, made of known Kuznetsovsky porcelain, and many other things.

In the historical Museum has a section devoted to the period of the great Patriotic war, which presents the material found on the battlefields and battles and given to the Museum by eyewitnesses to the events, as well as the Rangers search groups and ordinary residents of the district. Such items include bombs, shells, rifles, anti-tank weapons, boxes of ammunition and military household items: wedding rings, glasses, razors, coins and many other things.

In addition to the collection are works by artists residing in the territory of the Leningrad region.
