The building of the former synagogue is located right in the centre of Kladno – two steps from Plaza Mayor Paul. This majestic building with light stone is visible from afar. At the moment the premises is owned by the Hussite Church. Inside there is a wooden gallery for women, located on the Eastern side of the temple, original paintings and sculptures made in the nineteenth century, a stone on which are carved ten commandments, and a copy of the crucifixion, made by Czech master Frantisek Bilcom. The original crucifix is kept in the Cathedral of St. Vitus in Prague.
The synagogue was built in neo-Renaissance style in the late nineteenth century by the architect from Prague Emmanuel Brandt and served as a place for prayer numerous Jewish community of the city. This continued until the outbreak of the second world war. In 1942-1943 in the synagogue Jews gathered for further shipment to the concentration camp terezín.
After the German occupation, the synagogue was transferred to the Czech Hussite Church. Local Jews had to go to worship in Prague. While it's all arranged, so no one would talk about the return of the synagogue to the Jewish people. Then it became the norm, all used, and now the synagogue is called the former.
The basement areas previously used for prayer in the winter season, now is also not empty. There are office spaces and columbarium.
To get inside the synagogue simple tourist is unlikely. However, you can pretend that you came here on business, and casts a curious glance at least a few areas.
