Founded in 1990 and covers an area of 152 sq km national Park Mu Koh Lanta consists of many Islands in the Andaman sea. The largest part of the Park are Koh Lanta Noi and Koh Lanta Yai.

Interestingly the origin of the name of the Park and Islands. Translated from Thai “Koh Lanta” means “a Million eyes”, but with Javanese “ “LAN-TAS – fish grill.

National Park Mu Koh Lanta is rich in forests: more than 15 Islands you can see mangrove and evergreen forests, and tropical jungles. They contained the langurs and macaques, flying squirrels and deer, monitor lizards and cobras. Due to the proximity of the mainland on Islands national Park can be found up to 50 species of nesting and migratory birds.

Coral reefs and their inhabitants in the Islands of the Mu Koh Lanta are impressive for its biodiversity. There are 32 species of fish and 23 species of corals. Thanks to this national Park has ecological significance for the country, and carefully guarded by the state.

The main part of the Islands of the Mu Koh Lanta is a desert, small villages can be found on Lanta Yai and Koh Lanta Noi. Here is the tourism zone of the national Park.

On Koh Lanta Yai is still unusual people - the sea Gypsies or Chao Lay. Most of their life takes place in the sea on boats, where they are born, grow, gain knowledge and die.
