The house-Museum of Ljudevita Gaya, a famous Croatian poet, writer and linguist, opened to the public since 1966. Modest one-story yellow building with a sloping roof attracts large number of tourists interested in the history of Croatian culture. In the yard in memory of the guy installed his stone bust.
In the house of the writer still has the furniture, the family portraits (painted by Ivan Tisova), copies of manuscripts Gaya, printed texts, books, notebooks and even Newspapers and magazines, editing which he was engaged. Also here are stored the memories of contemporaries that already in early childhood, the guy showed great interest in the history of their city. He was a frequent visitor of the library of the Franciscan monastery, where he first met the manuscripts of the Holy fathers Krapina, not included in other collections, what was very inspired.
The guy was a German by birth, but at the same time so attached to Krapina Croatia and generally held in this city a considerable part of his life.
In the exposition of the Museum reflects the contribution of the writer in the development of the Croatian literary language. His work, presented here, indicate that the guy has become a real reformer of the Croatian language. The guy is revered as a symbol of the transition of Croatia from a feudal system to a modern civil society. In addition, due to its literary and editorial work the guy has done a lot to raise the national identity of Croats.
Archival photographs and other materials in large amounts presented in the Museum will help visitors to learn more about this fascinating literary and political figure in Croatia.
