Manerba del Garda is a quiet resort town on the Western shore of lake Garda, situated in the valley of Valtenesi. According to the latest census, it has a population of slightly more than 4 thousand people. The name of the town, apparently, comes from the name of the goddess Minerva.
The first people appeared on the territory of modern Manerba even in the Mesolithic, but perhaps the most important findings are those that belong to the era of Ancient Rome and dated to the 1st century BC, is the ruins of ancient Roman villas. In the Middle ages the town was built Rocca – a mighty fortress, for the right of possession which fought the Guelphs and the Ghibellines, and later Bresciani and veroneses. When in the 15th century Manerba became part of the Venetian Republic, the fortress has long ceased to serve in the military purposes. The Venetians were masters of these lands until 1796, when there were troops of Napoleon. When the area became part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Today the economy of Manerba based on the production of excellent wine Chiaretto, Rosso, Rosso Superiore. At the same time an important source of income for the townspeople remain fishing and of course tourism resort is especially popular among residents of Brescia. In the Pieve area of Veccia can visit the ancient Church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the 5th century, but considerably modified in the 11th century. Another interesting Church of Santa Lucia – worth in the region of Balbiani, and in the village Solarolo worth visiting the Church of San Giovanni Decollato and the Santissima trinità. Special mention deserves the medieval fortress Rocca, towering above the city and offering visitors excellent views of the surrounding countryside. From there you can see the island of San Biagio situated directly opposite the coast of Manerba.
Just outside the town is a Golf club Garda Golf Club", where you can play Golf. Also in summer you can go on a little cruise along the coast and enjoy water skiing.
