Lappeenranta historically known as city cavalry. In 1809 Finland became an Autonomous Grand Duchy of the Russian Empire, and was previously part of Sweden. In 1878, the country created its own army, called the “Old army”. Finnish Dragoon regiment in 1889 settled in Lappeenranta, where for it were specially built barracks. In 1947 the history of the cavalry in Finland ended, but the tradition and heritage still preserved thanks to the participation of various foundations and associations.

Cavalry Museum Lappeenranta is in the territory of the old town buildings - fortress Lineatus - in the former the guardroom, built in 1722. Local authorities and funds put a lot of effort to create in 1973 exhibition collection, dedicated to the thirty years war 1618-1648.

Here are collected the dear old paintings and engravings depicting the exciting historical battles of those years. Also visitors will see rare silicon gun of the XVIII century, the uniform of the soldiers of the time, the old black-and-white photographs chronicling the fragments from the life of the aristocracy, as well as learn about the history of the army.

Cavalry Museum is open for visitors during the summer period on a schedule, and autumn, in winter and summer by prior arrangement.
