Ethnographic Museum Grassi is a large complex, which includes three attractions of Leipzig: Museum of musical instruments, Museum of Ethnography and the Museum of applied arts. The name of this place was given in honor of Franz Dominic Grassi. Patron of the arts, Leipzig banker and a true connoisseur of art left a will in 2 million marks, which was established this Museum.

The Museum building was built in the XX century, but because of the shelling and air raids during the Second world war it was seriously damaged, was destroyed and severely damaged a large part of historical exhibits. Although the ethnographic Museum was opened to the public in the 50-ies, many of the exhibitions were closed for visitors until 2007.

Among the exhibits you can find many household items and works of art of different Nations. At the Museum of applied art, visitors can see the products of craftsmen, blacksmiths, carvers and glass blowers, all subjects there are more than 90 thousand. Among the Museum presents the Cabinet, in the style of the Italian Renaissance, there is also an exhibition and Roman hall, where there are real masterpieces of the Treasury of Leipzig.

To the ethnographic Museum include a library where you can find various historical prints, photographs and old books.

The Museum of musical instruments famous for its unique collection of instruments in Europe. The oldest exhibits date back to the XVI century. The Museum is divided into several rooms with a certain topic in each one of them presents the tools that characterize different epochs of time.
