Museum of books and writing is the oldest among all museums in Germany similar directions. It was founded in Leipzig in 1885. As the basis of this unique cultural and educational space was based on the collection of the famous German publisher, and bibliophile terminal.

This Museum in 1950 became one of the divisions of the East German German library, thus was the beginning of future associations and extensions. Here you can find numerous incunabula, manuscripts and rare publications Dating from the XVI-XX centuries, the collection of paper, fonts, watermarks, printing machines or models paper mills. In addition, the Museum has samples of watermarks and book design, machines for the production of paper and books, covers, archival documents telling the history of bookselling.
