Museum of books and writing is the oldest among all museums in Germany similar directions. It was founded in Leipzig in 1885. As the basis of this unique cultural and educational space was based on the collection of the famous German publisher, and bibliophile terminal.

This Museum in 1950 became one of the divisions of the East German German library, thus was the beginning of future associations and extensions. In 1990, when it signed the agreement on the reunification of Germany, this library has been linked with West Germany, located in Frankfurt am main.
