The Mendelssohn House Photo: House Of Mendelssohn

The Mendelssohn house is the only dwelling known and prominent composer, which has survived to the present time. Here lived a great performer and conductor of the Symphony orchestra of Leipzig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy since 1845. The building itself was constructed in the neoclassical style, typical of the German culture of that time.

Currently anyone can go inside of the mansion, there is a Museum which is open to visitors and tours. In previously residential areas are stored in the interior of the lifetime of the composer, as well as furniture, personal belongings and some historical documents, telling about his life and work.

In 2014, the Mendelssohn house was completely renovated, and the 205-th anniversary of the composer's Museum appeared before the public in an updated form. Despite all this work, the Museum was open to the public without restrictions. A new exposition was presented on 900 sqm, located in a building on two floors. On the first floor of the tourists fall in an interactive concert hall, where everyone can try their hand at conducting the art. On the second floor presents the things and materials that create a unique atmosphere and narrate the life of Felix Mendelssohn.

To the day of its opening after the reconstruction of the Museum exposition was updated. The Foundation named after the great composer received from his legacy three original stuff, including watercolor brushes Mendelssohn, 2 candlesticks, which are the initials FMB, and "Odyssey" of Homer, published in Greek in Leipzig in 1839.

The house-Museum of Mendelssohn annually attracts large numbers of visitors and tourists from different countries, which binds and unites the love of classical music and an outstanding musician and composer of the nineteenth century.
