Musical instrument Museum is a real storehouse of unique exhibits, which is a part of world famous Grassi Museum, located in Leipzig. The exhibits for visitors, are the most ancient and valuable in Europe.
The Grassi Museum was founded in 1929 and was named in honor of philanthropist and banker Franz Dominic Grassi. He bequeathed to the city of Leipzig 2 million marks for charitable purposes. In its composition was created by three museums, one of which was the Museum of musical instruments, where were collected the unique collection.
Among the congregations of the exhibits here are the violin, the lute, the viol and flute. The exposition of the Museum with the most numerous collections are presented to visitors in thematic halls, telling of various historical and time frames. On the ground floor you can see over 600 instruments, which gathered worldwide. All exhibits are located systematically, which allows not only for professionals but also for ordinary tourists to fully familiarize yourself with the fascinating story of the creation of musical masterpieces.
Here you can find the most exotic artifacts, such as Indian instruments with the use of horse hair, or African bells, made of bronze. Largest organ with pipes made of porcelain is a rare collection center that attracts a lot of attention. In the Museum of musical instruments houses a permanent exhibition, called "In search of the perfect sound". Visiting it, you can learn more about the history of music in Leipzig and to plunge into the world of extraordinary sounds. The exhibition devoted to the Renaissance, the life of the famous organist and composer Heinrich schütz or Johann Sebastian Bach, are truly priceless.
