Convent Of San Francisco (St. Francis of Assisi) is located to the South of the Park La Muralla, one block northeast from the Plaza Mayor in Lima. The Church and convent of St. Francis are part of the historical centre of Lima, which was listed as a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1991.

The Church and monastery were consecrated in 1673. Although the building of the monastery and the Church has experienced several strong earthquakes in 1687 and 1746, the earthquake in 1970, the buildings suffered significant damage.

The Church of St. Francis is an example of Spanish Baroque architecture in Peru. The arches of the Central and two side naves embody the blend of Moorish and Spanish designs and designed in the Mudejar style. The main altar completely carved out of wood. In 1943, in the catacombs of the monastery was discovered the crypt, which contains thousands of human skulls and bones. It is believed that there was buried 25 000 human bodies. Crypt built of brick and concrete, survived the earthquake on the Peruvian coast. It was used until 1808 for the burial of residents of Lima.
