Castle (castle) is situated on a high hill above the old town, which offers a magnificent view of the entire city. The exact date of Foundation is not preserved, the first mention of the castle falls on the year 1144. In the masonry of the castle are still preserved fragments of Celtic, Illyrian and Roman structures. Its present appearance, the castle became in the sixteenth century, as the earthquake of 1511 little that was left of the medieval buildings. The tower of the castle dates back to 1848.

Preserved chapel of St. George, Dating from the late fifteenth century. Once a year, on the first Sunday of January, the day honoring St. George, pilgrims flock here, like old times.

After 1815, the castle housed a hospital, and later as a military garrison and a prison. Current city authorities are going to restore and reconstruct the castle ensemble, which is a symbol of the Slovenian capital.
