The town hall and the Crown Tribunal Photo: the town Hall and the Crown Tribunal

The crown Tribunal – the highest court in the land legislation, was located in the centre of the Old town in the Old town hall. This building was built on the site of the old wooden town Hall in the Gothic style, which burned down in 1389. Initially, the new building served as a municipality, and since 1578 it has housed the Crown Tribunal.

In the first half of the sixteenth century, after the terrible fire that engulfed Lublin, the building was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The Crown Tribunal was surrounded by numerous shops, where merchants were selling their products. The first hearing took place here in 1579. The main face of the Crown Tribunal was appointed Marshal – Monsignor, which led to the trials where the accused were members of the clergy.

In the 80 years of the seventeenth century the courtroom was again rebuilt in the Baroque style, like many other buildings in Lublin in the period. One of the most significant alterations was made in 1781-1787, by the architect Domenico Merlini – the court master of stanisław August Poniatowski. The building received a classical appearance and increased almost twice. The front facade of the building was decorated with pilasters. The main bas-relief is located on the upper part of the facade. Coat of arms, divided into two parts, symbolizes Poland and Lithuania. Above the coat of arms is a crown Polish kings, crowned with a cross. On both sides of the depicted woman. One of them is holding a sword and the other scales is the symbol of justice. In 1977, the bas-relief was reconstructed. The interior has remained virtually unchanged.

Currently in the Corona Tribunal is the wedding Palace. It also hosts cultural events are also organized live music.
