Belarusian State Museum of the great Patriotic war – the largest in Belarus the memorial complex dedicated to the war of liberation of the Belarusian people against the fascist invaders. The uniqueness of the Museum is that the Museum began to collect directly during the war. The decision to start collecting materials was adopted on 2 June 1942 the Central Committee of the Communist party(Bolsheviks) of Byelorussia. This was a special Commission.

The doors of the Museum opened in October of 1944. The exposition was located in the trade Unions House on Liberty street, one of the few survivors after the war the building of Minsk. The Museum became a symbol of the new post-war time for the citizens, a symbol of hope. In a specially constructed building on the Central square, the Museum moved in 1966. Next to the Museum building has created a unique exhibition of military equipment.

Today we can see an unbiased slice of history and unique documents, items of that terrible time in the life of the country. Can evaluate the immortal feat of the entire people joined the struggle against the fascist troops. The Museum is completely disturbing atmosphere of wartime. You can find photographs, paintings, professional artists and pictures of soldiers, uniforms, flags, weapons, military equipment, with pieces collected directly during the war. A significant part of the exposition is devoted to the Belarusian partisan movement. Here you can see portraits of partisans, guns, household items, illustrated partisan journals.

Currently the exhibition is supplemented by exhibits, not been reported previously from ideological considerations: uniforms and personal items of the German military, objects, telling about the military life of ordinary people, evidence of reprisals from the guerrillas and other, previously withheld facts.

The role of the Belarusian State Museum of great Patriotic war history is extremely important nowadays for Patriotic education of youth, the younger generation will remember the heroism of their ancestors.
