The Curchi monastery – one of the main attractions of Moldova, the monument of the XVII century. The monastery is built on the picturesque hills, covered with forest, and occupies two terraces – the upper is directly the monastery, outbuildings, is located on the lower stone-pool-pond. The architectural ensemble includes two churches, nine different buildings, including the cells for the monks, a large garden and rock pool.

There are several legends about the Foundation of the monastery. On one of them, the founder of the monastic community is Iordache Curl, a resident of the nearby village Morosini. In 1773 he took monastic vows under the name of John, and in their own land was built a wooden Church in honor of the Holy great Martyr Dimitrios in neo-Byzantine style. Subsequently Iordache Curl became the first Abbot of the monastery, a great contribution to the development of which has made and his immediate family.

At that time the monastery was surrounded by a high stone perimeter wall with towers at the corners. In the years 1808-1810 on its site erected a stone Church with a tall bell tower in the classical style with Baroque elements. In 1868, the monastery was converted into a monastery, this year and is considered the official founding date of the temple. In 1884, near the residence of the Abbot built a winter stone Church. There are plans for the construction of the third temple in the Byzantine style, but the Church was never completed.

In 1958 the Curchi monastery was closed and its premises were given to the needs of the substance abuse and psychological hospital, which was located here until 2002. During all this time the temple was never repaired, resulting in all the buildings thoroughly collapsed, disappeared most beautiful paintings of interiors.

In the early 2000-ies above the monastery established the patronage of the UN, the funds of this organization initiated the restoration and reconstruction work, which continues to the present day.
