The monument is the chapel of the grenadiers killed Plevna, installed in Ilyinskiy square of Moscow – in the square at the Ilyinsky Gate. The memorial chapel grenadiers built on donations of grenadiers, the surviving participants of the battle of Plevna. They collected about 50 thousand rubles. The authors of the monument are sculptor and architect V. I. Sherwood and engineer-Colonel A. I. Laskin.

Chapel-tent octagonal shape cast iron set on a low pedestal and crowned with an Orthodox cross. Parts made of cast iron, mounted so sure that the seams are hardly visible. Side of the monument is decorated with four high relief with scenes that convey the spirit of the liberation battle. The inscriptions on the faces perpetuate the memory of the war with Turkey, the dead grenadiers and the liberation of the Bulgarian people from the Turkish yoke. In front of the monument installed cast-iron pedestals, on which stood mugs for donations for the crippled grenadiers and their families.

Inside the chapel are placed the images of STS. Alexander Nevsky, St. Nicholas, St. John the Warrior, Cyril and Methodius. On bronze plates immortalized the names of the dead grenadiers – eighteen officers and more than five hundred soldiers. In the Soviet period these plates were lost, the chapel fell into disrepair.

In 1992, the chapel was handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church. She was assigned to Nikolo-Kuznetsky Church. In March 1998, the chapel was dedicated and opened. The event was timed to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the liberation of Bulgaria and the signing of the peace of San Stefano Treaty. The consecration ceremony was attended by Patriarch Alexy II. On the day of the national holiday of the day of liberation of Bulgaria, which is celebrated on 3 March, the renovated chapel was held on the commemoration of fallen soldiers, the clergy of the Russian and Bulgarian churches.
