The theatre of Nations, or State Theatre of Nations in Moscow, Petrovsky pereulok. The brick building was built on a land of merchants Bakhrushin. The Bakhrushins were famous patrons, they donated land and fifty thousand rubles for the construction of the theatre building. The author of the project was the architect Chichagov. The building was built in a very short span of 120 days. Its equipped with the most modern technical equipment.
The theatre was opened in 1885. It was the largest private theatre in Russia: Russian drama theatre, known as the theater Korsch. The theatre lasted until the beginning of the thirties. In 1932 it was closed. The building was opened as a branch of the Moscow Art theatre.
In 1987 the building was re-opened theatre called "Theatre of friendship of peoples". He had to combine the theatrical space of the vast country – the Soviet Union. At the theater had to be the performances of the national theatre. He had to organize a tour of the national theatres across the country.
The current name of the "State Theatre of the Nations", the theatre received in 1991. In our days, the theater's artistic Director is people's artist of Russia Yevgeny Mironov.
The theatre of Nations is an independent theatre Institute, supported by the state. For the implementation of productions in the theatre are invited talented creative person and whole collectives. The purpose of theatre is to preserve the highest theatrical culture of the Russian stage and move along the path of modern development of theatrical art.
In the Theatre of Nations carried out their performances different theaters. "King Lear" - the Tbilisi theatre. Rustaveli and directed by R. Sturua. "Uncle Vanya" - Youth theatre of Lithuania and directed by E. Nekrosius. "The cherry orchard" - the Brooklyn Academy of music and directed by P. brook. "The game of love and chance" - the Theatre Nanterre – Amade and Director Jean – Pierre Vincent (France).
The theatre of Nations introduced the audience in Moscow with many theaters from around the world. On the stage were performances of theatres from India and Germany, Cuba and Bulgaria, Poland and the Czech Republic, Yugoslavia and Romania, South Korea, USA, Croatia, Macedonia, China, Britain and France.
The theatre of Nations became the initiator of carrying out of Festival of contemporary dance (1993 and 1995). On its stage Benefit performances were held choreographers, Boris Eifman, Evgeny Panfilov, Boris Myagkov. Recitals in the Theatre of Nations were the stars of the Opera stage. In the theater were solo performances such actors like Sergei Yursky, Boris Levinson, Alexander Filippenko, R. Bykov, Eugene Simonov and others.
The theatre received the prestigious theatrical prize "crystal Turandot" and "the gold Mask".
