Ghost town Kolmanskop is located ten kilometers from the town of Luderitz. In 1908 a railway worker Zacharias of Lewala found a sparkling stone in the sand near the railroad. His discovery was the beginning of the diamond rush of Kolmanskop. In the next decade, Kolmanskop turned into a lively European city, a small Paradise of German culture. There were large beautiful home, school, stadium, swimming pool. A well-equipped hospital could boast Africa's first x-ray machine. The discovery of new, more rich deposits of diamonds, put an end to the prosperity of the city. People left it and the desert inexorably advancing on the city. In 1980 part of the buildings was restored and Kolmanskop has found a new life, but now as a Museum. I can add description
