Alexander Church – the Church, built in 1881-1884, working for Lutheran Church workers at Kreenholm manufactory. The initiator of the construction of the new Church was the pastor of the parish. St. Johannes Ferdinand Gottlieb Tannenberg, who conducted worship services for the Estonians in the Swedish-Finnish Church of St. Michael.
The Church was built by the project of Otto Piusa background Gippius, funds for construction were donated by Baron Ludwig von Knop, owner of Krenholm factory. The stonework was carried out by the master of Kronstadt Luke Aces, interior trim performed Yemelyan wolves. The original construction of the Church was supervised by the architect of the project, later this was done by the architect of Krenholm Paul Alish. After a change of architect to the project were made small changes: for example, have been added to the heating and ventilation pipes.
Alexander II died on 1 March 1881 in the explosion of a terrorist bomb. A joint decision was taken by the town of Narva, and Church administration in October 1883, the Cathedral and the parish was named in honor of Alexander II. A year later, in may 1884, the Cathedral was consecrated.
In those years, the factory employed about 5000 people who adhere to Lutheranism. Alexander Church was extended for the number of workers. Had 2500 seats and as many more people could participate in worship standing. The Central part of the Church is made in the form of an octahedron. The main room is attached to the longitudinal building and the octagonal tower, with a height of 61 meters. The first pastor of the Alexander ward was Richard Julius von Pauker. He held this position until his death – until 29 March 1910.
Alexander Church was greatly damaged in the First world war and the Second. During Soviet rule, only the arrival of the Alexander Cathedral (the only one of all the parishes of the Lutheran churches) continued its work. In 1959, in a new restored Cathedral celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Church. Three years later, in September 1962, the parish was forced to leave the Church, and the Cathedral was turned into a storehouse, all the interior decor was destroyed. Ward managed to hide the Church bell and to take some chandeliers.
And only in 1990 the parish was returned to the Lutheran Cathedral. The first worship service after such a long break took place in 1994. And from that time, in the summer time in the Cathedral regularly hosts the service, and in the remaining period, the services are held in the little Church. The historic bell that was hidden, got the 120 anniversary of the Cathedral. In 2004, the stained glass Windows were dedicated, made Dolores Hoffmann. In 2007 he established the spire of the bell tower of the Cathedral, the height of which along with a 4-meter cross reaches 60, 7 meters. The height of the inner octagonal main hall is 25, 5 m, and the diameter of the arch is 20, 3 p.m. In the Cathedral's tower is a Museum of Narva Alexander's Cathedral, which you can visit on your own or book a tour.
