Odessa Museum of Western and Oriental art is one of the best museums in Ukraine. It is located at Pushkinskaya str., 9.
The Museum was established in the Palace of Abaza in 1923, His exposition was compiled from private collections that were collected by the local Committee for the protection of monuments of antiquity and art. Also here were exhibits from the city Museum and the Central state Museum. Now in the Museum there are wonderful works of foreign masters, including many rare exhibits.
The building that houses the Museum, is a monument of architecture. This Palace was built in 1856-1858, the famous architect L. Otton. The architecture of the Palace is solved in the spirit of eclecticism: the Baroque style coexists with elements of styles of Empire and Rococo. The interior of the buildings has a rich stucco decoration, unique carvings and fittings of bronze. The most interesting part of the structure is a lobby with Grand staircase.
The two-storey Museum building has twenty-three rooms, which is the exposition of antique, Oriental and Western arts. On the first floor of the Museum is the antique Department, which symbolizes the role of the ancient artistic heritage of European culture. Next, occupying only three rooms, placed the Department of art of the peoples of the East. On the second floor of the Palace presents a collection of objects of European art, which included painting, sculpture and decorative arts. It is here that visitors can see works by famous masters: "St. Luke's", "St. Matthew" Frans Hals, "Madonna enthroned" Francesco Granacci and "Threatening Cupid" by E. Falcone, etc.
