The Moravian town of šumperk is located on the river Desna, and is a fairly large settlement. It has a population of 27 thousand people.
Historians believe that this city was founded between 1276 1269 and years. First it was mentioned in Chronicles in 1281. Almost immediately after the founding of Šumperk there are Dominicans, who founded here his monastery complex and the Church of the Annunciation.
In 1391 Sumperk gets some rights, putting it on par with the Royal cities. Because the city belonged to the aristocrats, they made sure to build here a decent lock, which receives the same name as the city itself.
In 1507 Sumperk becomes the property of the representative of the family of Geromino. Peter Žerotín completely redesigned Gothic castle, giving it a Renaissance appearance. When, in 1513, in the city there was a big fire that destroyed most of the houses and the monastery of the Dominicans, he has allocated funds for their reconstruction and funded the construction of high walls around Sumperk.
When Peter passed away, his heirs became Peter Jr. and Jan Serotiny. They were greedy, eager for money of the Lord, which he overlaid citizens exorbitant taxes. Residents of Šumperk long endure such abuse were not asked for help to the king, who granted their demands, turned Sumperk in the Royal city and exiled Serotinal in Velke Losiny.
The city has experienced a lot of troubles: and the Thirty years ' war, and the plundering of the Swedes, and several fires – but was always restored.
In the nineteenth century in šumperk settled some Viennese Industrialists, who opened a textile factory here. For the construction of their homes, they invited the famous Austrian architects, for example, Theophil von Hansen and Anton Drexler.
