Created in the late Gothic style, the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary is known for its unusual pyramidal roof, which was lined with tiles. This Church belonged to at the time, two religious orders: the Franciscans and the Dominicans. The first Foundation stone of the Church was laid in 1453. The construction of the Church began at the insistence of a famous preacher Jan Capistrano is a big enemy of the Hussite movement. He lived for several years in the Franciscan monastery, which was built the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary. The Church was consecrated in 1468. The opening ceremony was attended by the Hungarian ruler Matthias Corvinus.
The Franciscans did not possess great wealth, so their buildings are modest and laconic decoration. These monks existed on charitable contributions, which made the powers that be. It is this money and passed the reconstruction of both the monastery and the Church. So, in the XVII century the monastery was enlarged, and the buildings themselves completely redone. In 1740-1744 year the monastery adjoining the Church was completely rebuilt in the Baroque style.
When the Emperor Joseph II issued a decree on the dissolution of most of the monasteries, the Franciscans were forced to leave their property.
The monastery was empty for long. He came into the possession of the Dominican monks, who moved here from the monastery near the Church of St. Michael. The last monks left the convent in 1950 – and not by choice. They were exiled to camps, where many perished. After that, the monastery housed a music school. Now the Church returned to the Dominican order. However, in times of peace the Church has not escaped the turmoil. In 1997, the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the virgin Mary experienced a major flood, but was rebuilt and is now open to visitors. Here you can see the old Gothic frescoes and explore the Baroque chapel of St. Anthony of Padua.
