The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village Ataman is one of the temples and the iconic sights of the city of Omsk.
The history of the temple began in October 1907, It was then that the Cossacks had raised the question of the erection of the new Church. The need for the construction of the Church was obvious, as station located near Trinity Church could accommodate only 1000.
Stone three-altar Church near the station Omsk was founded in may 1911 with the blessing of his Eminence Vladimir. The consecration of the Church was made by the Bishop of Omsk and Pavlodar Andronicus in August 1913
The Church originally had three altars. The main altar was consecrated in honor of Nicholas of Myra, one side chapel in honor of St. Alexandra, and the second in the name of St. Alexis, Metropolitan of Moscow. The temple was built with funds donated by the Cossacks of the stanitsa and locals. In 1913 in the parish there were more than 5600 Orthodox population.
In 1940 the Church was closed. After that, the local authorities decided to transfer the building of the temple on the conversion of a cultural and educational institution. In 1944, the Church still was returned to believers, and it is no longer closed, becoming one of two existing churches in Omsk in the Soviet years. In the 1970s, to the Church of St. Nicholas in the Ataman has made several extensions, changed the appearance of the domes.
In may 1989 by the decision of the Omsk Regional Executive Committee of the Church was given the status of a monument of architecture of local importance and was taken under the state protection.
