The Palais de Chaillot is relatively young – it was built in 1937 for the next Paris world exhibition. Built on the site of the former Palais du trocadéro, which was hosting the world exhibition of 1878. And if the trocadéro with its Moorish-Byzantine style symbolized the nineteenth century, neo-classical, constructivist style of Chaillot already reflected the harsh influences of the twentieth century.
Your name the Palace got the name of the hill on the banks of the Seine, on which it stands. This is a very good place: the square in front of Chaillot has an incredible view of the Eiffel tower. Not less wonderful views of the Palace itself opens from the height of the lookout tower. From here you can appreciate the enormity of Chaillot, the purity and the grandeur of its lines.
At first Chaillot didn't plan this: supposed to just give the Trocadero a more modern look. But the architects Karl, Boileau and Azem proposed to demolish the main hall and tower of the former Palace to uncover the prospect, leading to the Eiffel tower. Appeared the space was turned into an area with paths and fountains – it giant arcs correspond to two symmetric wing of the Palace. Right in the hill endeared the national theatre of Chaillot (a century later it will give a concert of Vladimir Vysotsky).
The building is richly decorated with sculptures in the classical style. In the evenings it is very beautifully illuminated.
