Pink pavilion or the Pavilion of Roses is one of the most charming pavilions ensemble Pavlovsk Park, which is of considerable artistic and historical value as a rare example of the classic wooden architecture. The author of the project of Pink pavilion is Andrei Voronikhin. Later it also worked Pietro Gonzaga and Karl Rossi.
The pink pavilion is located at the junction of three districts of the Pavlovsk Park: White Birch, Old Sylvia and Parade field. That is why it plays a significant role in the creation of the overall landscape of the Park, like finishing his artistic image.
In 1797, a plot of land "near the Front of the field," was granted by the Empress Maria Feodorovna Prince, privy councillor, the General-Prosecutor of the Department of principalities, Chamberlain, knight of various orders Alexey Borisovich Kurakin, for construction of a country house.
The home of A. B. Kurakin was located on the Rose pavilion. It was rectangular in plan with porches on four sides and was made of wood.
In 1806 the house with the site and services was sold to the Prince of the military Governor of the city of Pavlovsk, Peter Ivanovich Bagration, who was responsible for the safety of the Royal family, when the court went to Pavlovsk for the summer. Bagration was also acquired and adjacent land, which belonged to Prince M. P. Golitsyn. Who was the author of the alterations of the house of Kuragin unknown. The construction was carried out by a merchant of the 3rd Guild Andrey Pelevin.
Going in December 1810 in the army, Bagration ordered Pelevin on the sale of their Pavlovskaya real estate. And that was done. In 1811 the parts become the property of the Treasury of the Empress Maria Feodorovna. But the memory of the former owner have long persisted in behalf of this site. It was called "giving Bagration".
Andrey Voronikhin on behalf of the Empress redid this house in a Park pavilion. The idea of Maria Feodorovna pavilion was to be a Kingdom of roses – her favorite colors. The roses were decorated with specially designed furniture and interior decoration of the pavilion, and roses were on porcelain set and broken around the walls of the rose garden pavilion. Flowers were brought from different parts of Europe. The Empress loved and understood them. But special passion he showed for roses. Therefore, Park pavilion and was named Pink. In 1812, on the gable of the main facade of the building was gilded inscription in French "Pavillon des roses".
When on 27 July 1814, Pavlovsk met Alexander I and the Russian guard, who returned with a victory over Napoleon from Paris, to the Rose pavilion was hastily added the dance hall. The construction works were supervised by the architect K. Rossi and decorator P. Gonzago. In addition, near the Pavilion of Roses on the pond "to catch fish" had a pier with wooden railings. And at the pavilion of Roses were installed copper statue of Hercules sitting on a horse, and Apollo Hersonskogo.
Today the reconstructed pavilion of Roses performs the role of a concert hall. The best musical project in its walls, is held annually since 2002 the festival "the Great waltz in Pavlovsk". The festival is dedicated to the composer Johann Strauss. Over time, the festival went far beyond the Pavlovsk became inter-Museum project, getting wider the name of "the Great waltz".
Another music festival held in the Rose pavilion, dedicated to the composer Mikhail Glinka. Thus honor and continue the tradition that once laid a Royal mistress of Pavlovsk, Maria Feodorovna.
