Western Australian Museum – the Cultural heart of Perth city Centre is about 4, 5 million items! The Museum was founded in 1891 and is now the exhibition acquaint visitors with the history of Western Australia, its nature, aboriginal culture and, oddly enough, the space – this is where a meteorite weighing 11 tons! Another interesting exhibit of the Museum is the skeleton of a blue whale. The archaeological collection of the Museum is considered one of the largest in the southern hemisphere. In addition to the two buildings in Perth, the Museum complex consists of branches in Geraldton, Albany and Kalgoorlie-boulder, as well as Maritime Museum Shipwreck in Fremantle.

Almost a hundred years - until 1971 - the Museum was housed in the old prison of Perth and was known as the Geological Museum. In 1892, to the geological collections added ethnological and biological, and in 1897, the Museum was officially renamed the Museum and Art Gallery of Western Australia. In the second half of the 20th century Botanical collections were moved to the new Herbarium and the Museum and art gallery shared. The Museum has focused its efforts on collecting subjects anthropology, archeology, history and natural Sciences. In 1960-70-ies there began to appear the exhibits related to the history and culture of the aborigines, as well as the remains of ships sunk off the coast of the state. The building of the old prison Perth today is also part of the Museum complex as one of the oldest remaining building in Western Australia.

Among the permanent exhibitions of the Museum – exhibition "Land and people of Western Australia", which traces the history of this land from the time of the dinosaurs and the first aboriginal to environmental problems today. More information about the history of dinosaurs can be found on the thematic exhibition, which presents the parts of the skeletons of prehistoric reptiles, and rocks from the moon and Mars. About the history and culture of the aborigines of Western Australia says the exhibition "the Katta Jinong". And in the Sea Gallery Dample you can get information about biodiversity of the waters of the archipelago Dample. Finally, in the galleries of Mammals, Birds and Butterflies exhibits the amazing nature of the state. For children and adults in the Museum is a center of discovery, introducing the Museum's collections in an interactive way.

A little bit about the branches in other cities of the state. Division in Albany is located on the site of the first European settlement in Western Australia. The Museum tells about the biological diversity of these areas, about the culture of the aboriginal tribe Nungar and about ancient ecosystems of these places. The Museum in Kalgoorlie-boulder will learn the history of the gold rush and the development of the mining industry. And in Geraldton you can learn about the development of agriculture in the region, about the life of an aboriginal tribe of amagi and the crashes of Dutch ships. Near these places in the 17th century sank the famous Dutch ship "Batavia", the portico of which is now kept in the Museum.
