The natural reserve "the Lama Bianca was founded in 1987, the year in the area in 1407 ha. elevation in the reserve is about 1500 meters from the top of Monte Amaro height of 2795 meters to the bottom of the Valle d'orta. Geographically, the reserve belongs to the municipality of Sant'eufemia a Maiella in the province of Pescara in the Italian region of Abruzzo. But it borders the Lama Bianca nature reserve Valognes del Orfento and national Park of Maiella".
Typical Apennine vegetation in the reserve Lama Bianca varies from beech forests located at an altitude of a thousand meters, to the so-called "lunar" on the highest plateau of the massif of the Maiella. Special scientific and natural value are endemic plants, that is, those that occur only in a certain area, and a variety of shrubs and herbs. In the undergrowth of beech forests and thickets of mountain pines, which cover many hundreds of acres of the reserve, you can see a gentian, fire and Turk's cap lilies and wild peonies. And on the highest rocks are beautiful Edelweiss.
Among the wild animals that found refuge in the reserve Lama Bianca, whose territory is only slightly affected by human activity, there are also brown bears and Apennine wolves, red deer and ROE deer, chamois of Abruzzo and an unimaginable number of species of birds, of which stands out, above all, European stone partridge.
In the reserve there are many Hiking and Cycling trails, and some trails have been designed specifically for people with disabilities.
